The Lyrics Prize
Could you write the lyrics for a song? If you can, the Lyrics Prize is a perfect opportunity to make your dream into a reality. Because the winner of this competition will have his or her lyrics set to music, arranged, recorded, produced, mixed, and put on to a CD.
That CD will then go into design and production and the winner will receive 100 copies. The CD will have its own cover and label design, boldly stating that you are the composer of the lyrics for the song. You will retain musical rights and royalties to the song and you will not split them with the composer who sets your lyrics to music, or the production team who produce the CD with United Press.
You will be the sole beneficiary from all sales associated with the CD.
The Lyrics Prize presents you with a great opportunity to achieve what most people can only dream of - having their words set to music and producing a finished record.
All you have to do is compose the lyrics to a song - on any theme. You can pick what you want to write about. You needn't be too concerned or worried about the format of your song. If we feel we need to repeat sections of your entry to form a chorus and if we need to rearrange the verses - we will consult with you to arrive at the best format for your entry. All you need to do is come upwith lyrics which can be used and developed by our team at United Press to produce the finished song. Your entry can have as many words and lines as you like. We've provided a space on the entry form for you to write your song - or you can submit it on a separate sheet of paper. You can enter this competition as many times as you like - but you must pay the £9.99 entry fee for each submission.
You can, if you wish, send in a tape or disc which includes you singing your song and you can include any form of musical accompaniment. But this is not necessary.
However, if you do have a firm idea of exactly how you want your song to sound, you can tell us this on the recording or in writing. For example you can tell us all about your influences and the style of music you want for your finished work - pop, folk, swing, country and western, rock, opera, reggae, rap, jazz, Latin or R and B.
The person who is chosen as the winner will be invited to consult with us over the style, format and presentation of the CD. For example, you may want a certain kind of singer for your CD but we feel sure we will be able to provide someone suitable.
Our aim is to ensure that the person who wins his competition wins a prize which they will be proud of. So feel free to add a letter explaining your vision of what you want your song to sound like - when you send your entry.

You must post us your entry with a cheque or postal order, or fill out the credit or debit card information on the entry form. Please note that due to bank surcharges we are forced to add an extra £1.00 to credit card payments, but not debit card payments.
